OUTINGS:

Betsy & Jim Wilson announced a date change for the Middle Creek Wildlife Management Area to see Snow Geese.  This outing has been changed to Sunday, 2/16/2020. You can either carpool with others, or join us directly at the Visitor Center.

Carpool from Panera in Exton leaving at 3:00pm.  Please let Jim Wilson  know if you want to carpool at paddlejim48@gmail.com

Meetup at the Middle Creek Visitor Center at 4:00pm.  Enjoy the interpretive displays at the Visitor Center, and enjoy the comfort of indoor bathrooms!  We will then drive a short drive from the Visitor Center to to Willow Point.  There will be about a 1/3 mile walk from the parking area to the point, which is where we will hang out and wait for birds which may arrive anytime, but usually around sunset.  There are porta-potties at the parking area, but not at the point.  Please dress for the weather.  It can be quite breezy at the point, and you will be there for a few hours.  Hand warmers are a good idea, along with a thermos of a hot beverage.

Suggested camera equipment - A tripod is helpful, even for action shots, as your camera may get heavy after awhile, and the point is quite crowded with visitors and photographers.  A tripod helps to secure your spot!  A zoom lens is good to allow you to capture both the spectacular landscape of thousands of snow geese circling over the lake, while giving you the ability to zoom in for a closer shot of just a few birds in flight.  For close-up shots, the longer the lens the better.

The Middle Creek Wildlife Visitor Center is located at 100 Museum Rd, Stevens, PA 17578.

Svenne Juul announced an outing to Ephrata Cloister on Saturday, February 22, 2020 from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM.

We last visited the Ephrata Cloister in the fall of 2015. This visit in Winter will give us a new context for photographing the pale green half-timber buildings of the Cloister, dating back to as early as the 1740s. Nine buildings are open to visitors plus two other buildings, the Visitor Center and the Museum Store. Ephrata Cloister sprouted up around the German mystic Conrad Beissel, who chose the then-forested area in 1732 with the intent of isolating himself from other people.

Tripods are permitted outside but not in the buildings. The two largest buildings, the Meeting House and the Sister’s House, are only accessible via guided tour, included in the Cloister’s $10 entry fee ($9 seniors). Access to the upper floors of these two buildings (with the guide) can be arranged ahead of time for an additional $5 per person. This will be decided closer to the event.

The Ephrata Cloister home page is here.

There are restroom facilities in the Visitor Center; paved walks connect most of the buildings. Winter hours: 10 am to 5 pm.

Carpoolers will depart from the Exton Panera (151 East Swedesford Rd, Exton, PA) at 11:45 am. If you drive to Ephrata Cloister directly the address is 632 West Main Street, Ephrata, PA. We’ll all meet up at the Visitor Center at 1 pm. Please let Dean Grantham know if you plan to go, and indicate whether or not you’ll be carpooling.

Event date/time: Saturday, February 22, 2020 from 1:00 pm to 4:00 PM or whenever folks decide to depart.

Ginia Apostolacus announced that Harold Ross will be presenting Sculpting with Light at the next CCCC monthly meeting on 2/12/20.  Ginia also told club members that there are still spaces available for the Harold Ross Workshop on Saturday, 2/25/20, from 11 am - 5 pm.  This workshop will take place at the Messiah Lutheran Church in Downingtown.
