Chester County Camera Club

January 13, 2021 / Meeting Notes

The first meeting of 2021 was called to order just after 7 PM by President Ginia Apostolacus.  She greeted participants and asked new members to introduce themselves.  Chuck Pruitt came forward and shared that he heard about the Club through a club sponsored photo exhibit held at Penn State Great Valley.

The President then asked Committee Chairs to provide updates:

·         Competitions – Dean announced the next competition scheduled for January 27th; topic: Stars in the Sky; deadline for entries is midnight January 24th.

·         Members Forum - Anita announced that Buzz Mossholder will present on infrared photography next month; Peter Guman will present on Photojournalism in March; and Bob Kelly will present on “AI in Post Processing” in April.

·         Mentor/Mentee – Buzz reported that the next meeting on macro photography was scheduled for January 20th

·         Outings Committee – Sven reported on locations for the next two Club outings:  Boathouse Row on January 31 and Valley Forge on February 14.  More information is available online at Meet Up.  Those interested in attending should register/RSVP through Meet Up.

Next, the President surprised everyone by announcing a Raffle giving away three books on famous photographers and asked members to submit a number between 1 and 100 in the chat box.  The lucky winners were Mike Keba, YiJuan Chen and Maureen Maloney.  Congratulations to all!

Next Carolyn Mead, Programs Chair, introduced the evening’s guest speaker, Don Komarechka, who presented “Down the Rabbit Hole – The Universe at our feet.”  The speaker is a nature, macro and landscape photographer who hails from Barrie, Ontario, Canada.  From auroras to pollen, insects to infrared, much of Don’s photographic adventures reveal a deeper understanding of how the universe works.  In this excellent presentation, Don encouraged us to ask “what if” questions and explore the world that we cannot see with our own eyes.

The presentation was recorded and will be available to view on Youtube.  After a short Q&A, the presentation ended shortly after 9 PM and the meeting was adjourned.

Respectfully submitted by Pat Rhubottom, Secretary.
