from President Bob Kelly:

Well, another camera club year has come to an end, and last night many of us celebrated big league (or is it bigly)!

New member Kayann Cassidy took over the party planning job and she did an outstanding job, providing a festive and decorative environment.  The food was delicious and plentiful. Thanks to Kayann and all the helpers who came before to help set up and clean up.

We then had a chance to reflect on all the many wonderful presentations, members forums, outings, competitions, workshops, and exhibits.  Perhaps best of all, we were able to make new photography friends as 36 new members joined this year. I have posted the presentation online (should you want to take a break from binge watching Orange is the New Black or Senate hearings). It is posted under Club Information / Documents and Files to Download / Club Presentations /and then under the 2016-2017 club year.

We also had the opportunity to thank all the volunteers who contribute so much time to making club membership so rewarding.  Thanks to all for your commitment to making this a great camera club.

And of course, a highlight of the evening was announcing the awards.

2017 Photographer of the Year

The Photographer of the Year award is bestowed on the photographer who receives the most points over the course of the entire year’s competitions.  In the opinion of many long-term members, the quality of photographs submitted this year was higher than ever, making this year’s award even more special.  The 2017 Photographer of the Year is Jim Samanen.  Jim has been an outstanding photographer for years, and his commitment to his craft is obvious to all. His prints of photographs from around the world inspire all of us.  Congratulations Jim!

People’s Choice Awards

Another prestigious award is the People’s Choice award.  All first-place ribbon winners from this year’s competitions were voted on by the members and reflect the collective memberships favorite photographs.  Awards are given for the top three vote getters. This year’s winners were:

1st Place - Betsy Wilson - Hopewell Furnace Farm

2nd Place - Simply Daffy - Nancy Cordaro

3rd Place - Jackie Brady - Spinning Fire-24 and Betsy Wilson - Twitch

Megapixel Awards

The Club recognized the following exceptional members for their commendable service and dedication to the club.

Richard Donham – Our outgoing two-term vice president has provided exceptional advice to two club Presidents and the Steering Committee. Richard worked tirelessly to recruit high-quality speakers for our monthly presentations. He was a voice of reason and social consciousness for the club and his efforts are much appreciated.

Jackie Brady – not only has Jackie done a stellar job as the club’s party coordinator for several years, she epitomizes the spirit of the club. She encourages every member in their pursuits, both in person as well as on social media. She exudes a joy for photography that is contagious and inspirational.

Ginia Apostolacus – Ginia is the face of the club, welcoming guests and members at every meeting.  She has served as membership chair for four years and done a wonderful job in a very quiet and consistent manner and is a model volunteer.  She also served as a member of the steering committee and provided sound and measured advice.

Marty Bower – Marty is one of the club’s unsung heroes, doing his volunteer work consistently and without fanfare. Most members don’t know that Marty is the first to arrive to set up for every meeting, making sure speakers can be heard, and one of the last to leave after helping to pack equipment and straightening out the meeting room.

Congratulations to all of this year's Awardees.

Finally, thanks to all you members who make this club such an enjoyable experience. Have a healthy and fun summer and I hope you get to go out and shoot many beautiful photos!

I'll see you in September!
