Beauty of Light

Light is probably the most important thing to think about when trying to take a great photograph. When taking pictures, it is critical at times to be in the right place at the right time to get the perfect light.

This competition can be of outdoor or indoor images, but great lighting must be central to the success of the image.

Silhouettes and Shadows

Shadows are naturally evocative. The result of matter coming between a surface and incoming rays of light, they’re simultaneously symbolic of dependence as well as absence. Artists of all sorts utilize shadows—literally and figuratively—to drive home powerful points.

Silhouettesare a wonderful way to convey drama, mystery, emotion and mood to the viewers of your photos and often stand out in an album because of the combination of their simplicity but also the story that they convey.

Long Exposure

Long-exposure,time-exposure, orslow-shutter photographyinvolves using a long-durationshutter speedto sharply capture the stationary elements of images whileblurring, smearing, or obscuring the moving elements. Long-exposure photography captures one element that conventional photography does not: an extended period of time.

Skies the limit - Where sky is the important part of the image

Skies can make for some truly stunning photos. They are packed full of interesting colors and textures, and can make for some truly awe-inspiring photos.

Better still, skies are always evolving. Changing weather conditions, cloud formations, and lighting ensure that there is always something unique and fresh to photograph.

Macro photography

Macro photography is a unique form of photography that involves photographing small objects to make them look life-sized or larger in the photo. The usual subjects include flowers and small insects, which we don’t normally get to see up close with the naked eye.But other subjects can be very interesting too.

Paths and Trails

Paths, trails, or whatever else one might call them, are curious things. In some cases, it’s quite obvious that a great many people (and animals) have walked along a particularly rugged route countless times over the years, while other pathways are deliberately placed, meticulously designed, and regularly manicured. No matter their origin or intended use, trails can be enchanting and inviting or they can fill prospective travelers with a sense of foreboding and mystery.

Breaking Compositional Rules

Rules tend to get a lot of flak, but deep down inside, most of us know that rules are designed to make life better. With photography, it’s no exception. The rules of photography are based on general principles that create great photos. Sometimes though, the composition calls for the rules to be broken. This competition encourages you to purposely break the rules for a more creative image.
