MEETING NOTES - APRIL 11, 2017

Mira Room ~ Chester County Hospital

 

 

Pre-Meeting ~ Bob Kelly welcomed everyone to the pre-meeting and asked everyone to please silence their cell phones.

 

Nancy Cordaro introduced club member, Eric Loken, who presented “Taking Artistic Bird Photographs”.

 

 

Meeting ~ Bob Kelly called the meeting to order and welcomed everyone to the meeting of the Chester County Camera Club.  Bob apologized for the last-minute location change tonight.  He said that construction in front of the Rhoades Building will hopefully be completed by May 12.  He will let members know where the next meeting will take place on April 25.

 

 

New members and guests ~ There were 4 guests/new members at tonight’s meeting.  Bob Kelly described how the club operates every month  (speaker vs. competition nights).

 

 

Penn State  ~ Bob told the club members that there was a good turnout at the Penn State presentation on Wednesday, April 5.  He also thanked the presenters for a job well done!

 

 

Committee Reports ~

 

*    Club Outings ~ Howard Sundwall told club members that the next outing will be at the American Helicopter Museum in West Chester, PA on April 15 beginning at 10:00 am.  Arvid Bloom will serve as the CCCC Outings leader at the museum because Howard will be away.  Admission is $7 per person.  There will not be a carpool due to the local location.  For further information, please click here:  /club/Events_view.aspx?Eventid=2897fc11-83ad-4af1-b1d3-e0f1c470df2e

 

*    Yuengling Brewery tour ~ There will be a club outing to see how beer is manufactured at America’s oldest brewery on May 5 from 10:15 am - 2:00 pm.  A carpool will meet at Panara Bread in Exton at 8:45 am.  13 people have signed up so far; a minimum of 15 is needed.  Cost is $30 per person.  Please let Howard Sundwall know if you will be going ASAP and if you will be going with the carpool.  For more information, please click here:  /club/Events_view.aspx?Eventid=6c35de41-c96a-41a5-8c7f-a5e0ac0e4dc0

*    Workshop Committee ~ Peter Gunman told the camera club that Joe Edelman, fashion photographer, will be conducting a workshop on Sunday, June 11 in the Rhoades building beginning at 10:00 am.  Cost is $95 (early bird special); it will increase to $110 in a couple weeks.  15 maximum participants.  Please contact Peter ASAP if you would like to participate.

 

 

Summer Challenge ~ Stephanie Vacek & Anita Bower announced that there will be a Summer Challenge this year.  The Challenge details will be announced soon.  Participants should anticipate group meet-ups in June and July with a potluck supper to share our photos in August.

 

 

Party Coordinator ~ This position has recently been filled!

 

 

Next Meeting ~ April 25; competition night!  Pam McClean Parker will judge the images.  The theme for the evening is Farms.  A maximum of 3 entries per paid club member must be submitted no later than 11:59 pm, Sunday, April 23.

 

 

Presentation ~ Richard Donham, Vice President, introduced the guest speaker, Barbara Warren, "ARTISTRY IN LIGHTROOM AND PHOTOSHOP."  

 

Barbara demonstrated her post processing techniques, using images from the Palouse region of Washington, as well as local images.

 

Barbara Warren is a local photographer with a wide range of photographic interests. Her images have taken numerous awards in local juried art shows. Most recently, she has taken several top awards in the Phillips Mill Annual Juried Photography Show— Best Body of Work twice, in 2015 and 2011, Best of Show in 2010, and a Patron’s Award in 2013. She also received a Curator’s award for the 2016 Perkins Center of the Arts Photography 35 show. She took Best of Show in the Voices of the Marsh juried Photography Show in 2010. In the past, she has taken Best of Show in the Robert Ransley Juried Art Show, a purchase award in the Willingboro Art Alliance Juried Exhibition, and the Chairman’s Award at the Philadelphia Sketch Club.

 

Two of her recent solo shows can be seen on her website at www.barbarawarren.com . “Slaying Medusa: A Greek Myth Retold as Self Portraits” was exhibited at the Princeton Arts Council in 2013. “We Are More Than Our Diseases” was exhibited at Gallery 14 in Hopewell, NJ, in August of 2015, and at D&R Greenway Johnson Education Center in October, 2015, for Breast Cancer month. Her work was recently published in Black and White Magazine’s August 2016 issue as a Merit Award in their 2016 Portfolio Contest.
