MEETING NOTES - SEPTEMBER 12, 2018

Choir Room ~ Westminster Presbyterian Church

 

Meeting ~ Howard Sundwall called the meeting to order.  Howard welcomed club members to the first meeting of the 2018-2019 year.

Club Changes ~ Howard informed attendees that there have been several changes since we last met in May ~ he is the new president; we are in a new meeting venue (Westminster Presbyterian Church); meeting nights have changed to the second and fourth Wednesday’s of the month; there is a monthly newsletter going out to members with information of club news; meetings will begin at 6:30 pm and promptly end before 9:00 pm due to strict time limits at the church.

Competitions ~ Bob Kelly has taken over as Competitions chair.  He told the club that competitions will take place on the fourth Wednesday of the month.  Competition topics this year include - Food, Water, the Human Body, Trio, Pictorialism Landscapes, Triptych, Portraiture and Decay.  Bob told members there are a few rules changes and how they can learn about these changes on the website.  Textures will be permitted; however, the addition of birds/clouds/etc. will not be allowed.  He also informed the group that there will be a change in how ribbons will be awarded ~

          One ribbon - If there are 1-8 images submitted in a category (first place only)

          Two ribbons - 9-16 images submitted in a category (first & second place)

          Three ribbons - 16-24 images submitted in a category (first, second & third place)

          Four ribbons - Greater than 24 images submitted in a category (first, second, third & honorable mention)

 

Monthly Speakers ~ Carol DeGuissepe has lined up several excellent speakers this year for the second Wednesday of the month.

 

Outings ~ Howard Sundwall filled in for Dean Grantham.  There will be 15-17 outings this club year. 

          The first club outing will take place on Saturday, September 29, 2018 from 8:15 AM to 2:30 PM ~ Ft. Delaware/Pea Patch Island ~ This Civil-War-era fortress guarded Philly against naval attack via the Delaware River, but was never challenged by Confederate warships.  There will be a carpool leaving the Exton Panera at 8:15 am, or meet at the Ferry Landing in Delaware City, DE at 9:30 am (Ferry departs at 10 am).  For more information, please click here:  /club/Events_view.aspx?Eventid=e4f192f7-3306-4ef0-a0ff-e4f55a1bfe28

 

Workshops ~ Wayne Dixon told club members that there will be a Toy Photography workshop on Saturday, 9/22/18 from 9 am - 12 noon.  There will be classroom instruction in the Finance Building at the Chester County Hospital in the Parlor Room before going to a local park to do a photo shoot.  If anyone is interested, please contact Wayne!  There will be a small fee for the workshop.  BYOT (bring your own toys)!  He suggested that members research toy photography online.

 

Mentorship ~ Paula Miller  is the committee chair for the Mentorship committee.  The mentorship meetings will take place on the third Wednesday of the month from 7:00 - 9:00 pm in the Finance Building at the Chester County Hospital in the Parlor Room.  2018 meetings will be October, 17 & November 21.  Please contact Paula if you are interested in being a mentor or a mentee!

 

Members Forum ~ Anita Bower told the club that the Members Forum will take place at the first meeting of each month.  Tonight’s forum was an informal “Meet & Greet” for old members to learn a little something about new members.  Each month, the Members Forum will have a different theme.

 

Outreach Committee ~ Ginia Apostolacus told the club that the members that there will be an upcoming photo exhibit at Penn State Great Valley in Malvern.  The theme will be, “My point of view”.  It will be a juried show.  There will be a $10 entry fee/member; each member may submit up to 3 images.  No more than 2 images will be selected for the show per member. Checks may be sent to the CCCC postoffice box or submitted to Helen at the next meeting.  For further information, please refer to the CCCC website.

 

Print Critique Group ~ Jim Samanen is the committee chair for this group.    Members will meet once/month at an informal location to review their prints and receive constructive feedback.  Please let Jim know if you are interested in joining the group!

 

Closing ~ Howard closed the business meeting by encouraging members to get involved with many of the programs that are offered to them.  He also wants people to have fun while participating in club activities.  He also thanked the many volunteers who make the club run smoothly.

 

Tonight’s Speaker ~ Carol DeGuiseppi introduced tonight’s speaker, award winning photographer, Marvin Gerstein.  Marvin discussed "Capturing Emotion in Your Photography."  His presentation reviewed photographs taken on the street, and in studio and included a discussion of the approach, techniques, and where applicable, post-processing applied.
