Committee Reports ~

*    Club Outings ~ Bob Kelly presented Howard Sundwall’s report to club members.  The next outing will be to the Mid Atlantic Air Museum in Reading, PA on 2/25/17 from 9:00 am - 1:00 pm. The museum is located at the Reading Regional Airport. The website can be found here: http://www.maam.org/  Admission is $8. Tripods are permitted. The interiors are very crowded, so wide-angle lenses will come in very handy.  Carpoolers should meet at Panera Bread in Exton at 9:00 am. Separate travelers should meet us at the entrance way at 10:00 am.  For more information, please refer to:  /club/Events_view.aspx?Eventid=c1578c6b-98bf-40a4-b465-6f16eeab2f87

*    Party Planner position ~ The Chester County Camera Club is currently looking for someone to take over the position of Party Planner.  Jackie Miller Brady has served in this committee for several years and will be resigning at the end of the 2016-2017 club year.  Interested people should contact Bob Kelly.

*    Workshop Committee ~ Peter Guman surveyed the audience to see if club members would be interested in attending a workshop hosted by Joe Edelman, professional portrait photographer, at a future date.  This potential workshop would allow a maximum of 15 people at a cost of approximately $70-$100/person.  So far 13 members are interested!

*    Penn State ~ Bob Kelly reminded club members that the reception for the exhibit at Penn State Great Valley is February16.  To date, 75 people have RSVP’d that they will attend.  The reception will run from 5:30 - 7:00 pm.  Please contact Helen Wagner if you are interested in attending but haven’t RSVP’d yet.

Presentation ~ Richard Donham, Vice President, introduced the guest speaker, Karl Leck, who gave a presentation on "The Future of Photography, Based on the Past of Photography."

Karl Leck loves photographing anything, anywhere, and anytime; he has photographed images on every continent. His images from six summer Olympic Games have been featured in Sports Illustrated, US News & World Report, and the US Olympic Committee as well as over 20 specialty magazines. Honors include the Photographic Society of America Photojournalist of the Year in 1992 and 2006, Senior Fellow of the Wilmington International Exhibition of Photography and Fellow of the Delaware Photographic Society (DPS). He has taught photography at DPS, University of Delaware Lifelong Learning Institute, Cecil College, Delaware Nature Society and other venues. In the last 55 years he has used film and digital still cameras from 35mm to 8x10 as well as rotating panoramic film cameras and ultra high speed flash.

An excellent image for Karl is one that is technically well done: subject appropriately focused, exposure revealing highlight and shadow detail, composition leading the viewer's eye to the subject, and no visible image processing artifacts. To be a 'winner' the image should tell a story or reveal something interesting about the subject. Originality in subject matter or in the manner an image is captured adds value. Since photography is an art, the artist should use the available tools to interpret and clarify their vision of the subject.
